ATTN: [info]buggerall folk! In efforts to maybe attempt the RPWriMo, who would like to do threads with me? I offer up Roxie, Mitchell, Tristan, and Dani :) I am up for doing non BA things, too, if anyone wants to throw some ideas my way.

Anyone having issues with adblock (on firefox) not blocking the ads from IJ anymore? It's making me sad. I have updated FF and Adblock, so they are all up-to-date with their versions (did this after the ads started showing up again).

However, IJ is still riddled with ads. *pouts*

[Bad username: find_the_mod"]!!!!!! [Jul. 1st, 2009|05:14 pm]
If anyone is looking for a MWPP Era Game, Oh, Flisties, I am going to recommend [info]find_the_mod! Which just opened today!

I actually have a few specific character suggestions, too!
  • Rabastan Lestrange would like his family there: Rodolphus and Celeste (his siblings!) Caracatus & Roslyn (his parents -- though between the two he'd rather have his MUM!)
  • Olivia Wilkes would like her little sister, Chloe. Chloe JUST finished Hogwarts (was in the same class as Regulus Black), and Olivia's been out for a few years. Since their parents died, Olivia is guardian over Chloe and in charge of the Wilkes fortune... she's generously set a side a percentage for Chloe, and despite that being a small fortune itself, it's a mere fraction of the estate -- she did not divide the estate in half. They are the last remaining Wilkes, and their parents were killed by Aurors when they came to investigate allegations that Richard, their father, was a Death Eater. Olivia, herself, has now taken in his footsteps and become one.
  • Rosmerta would like that bloke she has a thing with, just whatever you do: don't call it a relationship! Someone famous, quidditch or musician, who comes in/out of town and whenever he's IN town, they're hooking up like their in ~lurve~ but whenever he's out of town it's like WHO? (mutually, neither one of them act attached or even try to.)

I have a couple other characters, but Lily's pretty much set with who she needs around (but thinks a Peter should be apped for!) and while I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE for John's family to be picked up (he's got an older brother, an older sister who is married and has three kids, and both parents still alive), I'd MUCH rather have Rabastan's family, Olivia's sister, and Rosy's ~friend~ picked up. XD

If interested, I can give you the link to the characters bios! ;) If none of these characters interest you, trust me when I tell you that the game will be worth apping for SOMEONE, so get your butts over there already!

For those of you who expressed interest in this game idea, I have a place where you can hold characters/names/etc here

Though, that's all that's up for right now, as the game/community is a work in progress. Feel free to pass these links on to your friends you think would be interested!

    [Apr. 19th, 2009|01:10 pm]
So, remember when I was talking about a game that covers 1st-7th year? AKA here ;)

I have decided that yes, I am going to do this. I have decided on the class of 1996, two years before the trio year, (Angelina/Fred/George/Lee/Alicia's year.) This is because for their 3rd-7th year, events can and will be taken from the first 5 HP books. I will actually be rereading the books - or skimming - in preparations for the game.

Now, the game will not open until this summer, most likely, due to the fact that I plan on having certain things done in FULL prior to opening -- and by in full, I mean accessible to players in game as well. The calender/time line for the ENTIRE game, all "7 years" will be posted, for example, so there will be no surprises on what year/day it is in game, or when things are going to occur.

However once I have the basics up at a community - locked from the public - I will be allowing those who are expressing interest in the game to see the journal/information and start thinking about holds and characters..

If anyone is interested in helping me out, as I figure out plot points and events to use for the calender, and other setting up sorts of things... let me know :) Otherwise, I just wanted to keep you in the loop that said game is in the process of being planned, and is, in fact, coming ;)

PS. If this game is successful, I am considering doing this same thing for the MWPP class. However, as there are more events from the books to go off of if choosing a Trio-Era class, I will be using this era as the "let's see if this format of a game actually works" since it's less work for me to get the timeline set up ;)

I'm currently helping a friend with a layout -- she's apping for a game on IJ for the first time and she'd like to have a layout where you can have a) a customized header at the top and b) still see the icon for each entry on the actual journal page.

Any hints, tricks, layouts I should look at making? She uses the 3-column layout on LJ for her journals, to help give you an idea of what she uses there.

    Thanks in advance!

FOR EXAMPLE: If I could just change the header on this layout to have this header that's the kind of thing she's going for!

    A game idea...maybe [Apr. 6th, 2009|07:53 pm]
This past weekend, I was considering the concept of a game that I have no idea if it is really something that would work out without being a headache and/or confusing.

I think I'd kind of like to take a look at HP characters from one of the eras, each having their own pros and cons, and play out their years in Hogwarts.

No RP would ever last that long, granted.. So I was thinking about it.. what if it was set up to follow one "graduating class" and characters in grades above/below are all NPC'd if/when needed... but starting out at some point early on at Hogwarts, ideally 1st year.

The game would have 3 months dedicated to each "year" which is where it would get tricky. Instead of an expedited and confusing timeline, certain events from each year are chosen for that year to focus on (5th years would include 0WLS for example) and there'd be fade out transitions to get the time moving from one point in another.

Game starts out, for example, a few days before the kids start 1st year. The pacing is one day REAL TIME = one day GAME TIME.

There would be time for their first trip to Diagon Alley, the first ride on Hogwarts express... the SORTING CEREMONY. (what would be really cool is to actually kind of have a community thread for this, including some characters getting SORTED during this, in which the player didn't know ahead of time which house they'd be placed in... obvs not canon characters who have houses.

After the first few weeks of school, kids getting used to the castle/classmates... it would jump to later in the year... perhaps for holiday festivities, or some other event. If following the trio era, here's where it's easiest -- we've got the books already laying out canon events to jump too. However, it wouldn't give freedom for surprise sorting IN game.. and less freedom of plot and where things are going.. (pros & cons)

At any rate, I imagine the game spending at most 3 months on a year, but following the transition from the wide eyed students who first enter the school, their transitions into adolescents, the tough decisions between good and bad, and what the lines really are, the first crushes/relationships/kisses... etc.. but taking the kids and write them out the game concluding when they finish Hogwarts.

What it would take though, is a group of players who are interested and want this exercise in character development. Ones that wouldn't mind fading out of one point in time, to the next, to keep the calender going (think of the books, not EVERY day is written in the books, just the important events). I think it would work best, ideally, if there was a full class of students ready to go before the game opened, especially in the case where there will be some spontaneous sorting during the game. The game would definitely have community wide threads put up -- not that the tags have to be on the "epic scale of awesome" but even small, quick responses that focus more on actions/words than the thought process to get them there. (Because, again, reading books, you hardly ever get every characters thoughts every time they make ANY move...)

Personally, there are more than a few characters I'd love to either grow them up, or watch them grow up. The MWPP era could prove to be more interesting, simply because less is known about them... but even the trio-era focusing on a year that's NOT the trio's year - because a lot of their events are already told (we know why draco and harry hate each other, etc..) True, there are minor characters from that era that could be fun in this setting... but their seventh year is a horrible dark place and the point of this game isn't really to be dark, which is why I think Fred/George/Angelina/Lee's year would be a better pick for the trio-era.)

I would not attempt it with the next-gen, because those games struggle even when they're straight forward and not complicated.

This post has been long, probably tldr; but... if you did read it, any/all feedback is appreciated. Even if you hated the idea, or don't think it's possible. Because, again, I'm not even sure a concept like this would work out.. I just think that it would provide a lot of satisfaction to actually... you know... take a character and grow them up like that.

This entry will remain public, because even if the game idea is stolen, and kuddos to anyone who thinks they can do this and get interest in it, all I ask is that I am linked to the game so I can play in it ;)

HEY GUYS. I need your help!!!

When you think of "chick flicks" that take place in high school/college, which were very popular in the 90s, what comes to mind?

    She's All That
10 Things I Hate About You
    Drive Me Crazy
    Whatever it Takes
    Summer Catch
    Get Over It
    Crazy/Beautiful
Bring It On (and all the "sequels")
    Never Been Kissed
    "O"
    Save the Last Dance
    Center Stage
    Princess Diaries
    The Prince & Me
    Coyote Ugly
    Teaching Mrs. Tingle

    ...

I need more!! I know there's tons, so let me have 'em ;)

    [Mar. 10th, 2009|11:18 pm]
So the last poll I had received a lot of helpful feedback, so thank you for that! I'm glad I didn't have the ability to create a poll, because the writing out answers is far more informative than simply voting for a category and leaving it at that.

Now, as I'm forming the game premise and idea in my head - it is forming, yes indeed, I have another question that I'm pondering: Games with "Closing Dates" set at the start of the game.

Do you like games that say they plan on opening on such and such date and closing on such and such date?
How long of a set time period is reasonable without being too short or "too long"?
Is it better to just open it and play until interest begins to fizzle?
What sort of "end" events would be great for a closing date?

Now, keep in mind that the end of date CANNOT be the MWPP's leaving school OR the death of the Potters! The game is going to be relatively canon based, not AU, and will have a mixture of the school/out of school to it. Not sure at what point in the characters schooling will the game begin - however, them leaving school is not going to be a predetermined ending date, as I hope to play past that --- and the death of the Potters on the other hand... I don't think any MWPP game around will span THAT many years to pan out them going from school aged to the year that they died. I certainly don't feel up for that adventerous modding commitment either.

So something that happens between when the MWPP characters finish school and the END OF THE WAR would be nice. Without being terribly AU, either. Should there be a big *event* as the end of game... or just an *ordinary day*.. its these sorts of questions I'm pondering now.

For those of you who know the specific idea I'm playing with, please don't mention it in comments. I'm leaving this public so as to allow anyone to comment, and thus, I don't want the actual IDEA out in the open, considering I've seen games be copied/stolen/etc before. It suck for it to be stolen before I even had a chance to form the community!

Otherwise, please give me your thoughts and opinions about games that have a predetermined expiration date? Good? Bad? Depends?

Attention everyone who likes MWPP GAMES! [Mar. 5th, 2009|06:23 pm]
A POLL! Since I don't have a paid account you're going to have to use comments. Which is good, I want to generate discussion!

  • Would you be interested in a MWPP-era game? If yes, would you be more interested in a game that takes place AT Hogwarts? or AFTER Hogwarts?
  • Would you be interested in a MWPP game that is very war-involved/centric? Or would you rather a game that while the war is taking place and is used to keep plot moving forward it is not the central focus of the game?
  • Would you rather see the ages of the Black family members tweaked to all be closer aka in school, or plz don't break canon thanks?
  • Are there any characters you are dying to play again? Or try?
  • For in-school MWPP era games, do you like having a slew of premade characters, including who they are destined to marry and what spawn they are destined to have? Would you prefer to have it that way, or instead, have non-canon pairings (aka Lily/James v. Katie bell's parents) not set in stone? So the characters have a chance to come together and click before it's going to be decided who marries whom? Or maybe a mixture of both? Some premade connections, some left open?
  • Do you prefer games that operate in REAL TIME? Games that operate where it's one month in RL and another in RP life? Games that go 2 days RL = 1 day rp?
  • Any MUST HAVES for MWPP era games?
  • Any absolute PET PEEVES?
  • What are your preferred activity requirements? Journals emphasized more then logs, or the other way around??
  • ANYTHING ELSE???

Because I have an itch. That might need to be scratched. I really miss games like M75 and Madworld... and I'm letting the ideas steep.

    SO INPUT. PLZ.

This post is left intentionally unlocked. For those who aren't on my friends list that want to give input. Non-friend comments are screened, though, just because I get paranoid about drama in the ooc sense.

Compliments make everyone :) [Mar. 1st, 2009|04:28 pm]
One little compliment can make you feel great. So give me a compliment, anything in the entire world, even that my shoelaces are pretty. Put this in your journal. Once you get some comments, put that entry in a memory or tag and when you are feeling down, just go to that entry and this will remind you how great you are.

Comments are going to be screened so none of you will know if I'm uber-popular, who gets over 100 comments on this, or who's a total loser and doesn't get any.
